Sometimes making a difference means rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck in.

Colleagues from our Cleaning team recently volunteered their time and skills to support Dora Brown, a charity helping families facing challenging circumstances to create safe, welcoming homes.

Working alongside the charity’s volunteers, our colleagues spent the day helping transform the home of a local family – clearing, cleaning and restoring the property to create an environment the family could feel comfortable in.

Making an impact beyond the day job

When the team arrived, they quickly realised just how much work there was to do.

But using the skills and experience they bring to their roles every day, they worked alongside Dora Brown’s volunteers to make a visible difference to the property.

The transformation had an immediate impact.

Emily Cotton, Head of Volunteers at Dora Brown, said:

“I wanted to say the biggest thank you for all of your hard work, compassion and kindness. You made such a difference.”

She also described volunteers as the “heart and soul” of the charity and praised the response to the transformation, particularly in the kitchen.

More than the work we do

Across Vertas Group, our colleagues work in the heart of communities every day. Opportunities like this give our people another way to contribute – sharing their time, skills and experience with organisations doing important work locally.

For the colleagues involved, it was a chance to work together outside their usual environment and see first-hand the difference their contribution could make.

And for Dora Brown, it meant having extra hands and professional cleaning expertise available to help create a safer, more welcoming home for a family who needed it.

Because sometimes the skills you use every day can make a difference far beyond the day job.
